How sad, how pathetic! For many decades Boomers have been those who were born from 1946 to 1964, the boundaries have been solid and clear to all. Now, because a generation sees itself as a total failure, as nothing, it desperately seeks to count Obama as theirs. It would be funny, if it wasn't so sad.

Interesting blog, but Obama is not a GenX'er. Have you noticed that almost no prominent individual or publication or network has said that he is an X'er? I have. And I've also noticed that many prominent individuals and publications and networks have said that he is specifically part of Generation Jones, born 1954-1965, between the Baby Boomers and Generation X.

Google this and you'll see it's a pretty long list of commentators who have already stated this position. Among those who have publicly referred to Obama as part of Generation Jones are: David Brooks (New York Times), Karen Tumulty (Time Magazine), Roland Martin (CNN), Michael Steele (Chairman, GOPAC), Chris Van Hollen (Chairman, DCCC), Stuart Rothenberg (Roll Call), Clarence Page (Chicago Tribune), Juan Williams (Fox News Channel), Howard Wolfson (Political Advisor), Mel Martinez (U.S. Senator [R-Florida]), Carl Leubsdorf (Dallas Morning News), Jonathan Alter (Newsweek), and Peter Fenn (MSNBC).

Strauss and Howe, the authors of the seminal book: Generations, New York, Quill, William Morrow, 1991, give the birth years of what they call the 13th Generation as 1961 to 1981.

They are the most authoritative authors on the subject. Their dating is based on extensive interviews as explained in their book.

It is later that the more common name for the generation became Generation X.
